Trà Mi Dinh - On The Island Residency Program Showing

Trà Mi Dinh - On The Island Residency Program Showing

6pm-7pm at TASDANCE 197 Wellington Street

Tra Mi.jpg

Join us on Friday 28th of June as On The Island Resident Trà Mi Dinh shares what she has been working on over the past two weeks.

TASDANCE 197 Wellington Street

6pm-7pm

A note from Trà Mi
"Thanks to Tasdance’s On The Island Residency program, I’ll be dedicating these next two weeks to an intensive creation period to develop a new work.

Initially, my focus will be on sensation; experiencing and studying the patterns/mechanics/nature of my physical responses to a concept. Playing with these physical impressions encourages a curiosity about the different textures we can absorb and manifest in the moving body. It is in this state of discovery and research that forms the foundation for my time at this residency - which I’m sure will shift and transform many times over.."

Book TROLLS for your School NOW!!!!

Book TROLLS for your school today.

Limited times available.

TROLLS is a dance in education project that aims to give school students awareness and skills in relation to cyber bullying. One in four Australian children aged eight to 15 has experienced cyberbullying. Just as shocking is the fact that three-quarters of all Australian schools reported cyberbullying last year.

Tasdance has developed a high impact dance theatre work that involves school students in fun participation based activities that examine the consequences of our actions online. The work uses cause and effect choreographic devices to demonstrate that every word we type online has an effect on whoever it is directed
at. Equipped with a large screen portable television and computer on a stand, TROLLS can be presented in any gym, hall, multipurpose space or theatre.

Formats and Cost

TROLLS, is ideal for large or small school groups (both primary and secondary schools) and can be presented in two different formats dependant on the requirements of the school.

Format 1 - A 35-minute performance followed by a Question and Answer session (duration is half day) - $800

Format 2 - A 35-minute performance followed by a Question and Answer session, plus one or two dance workshop to dig deeper into the themes of the work. Workshops can be catered in a number of different formats (duration is one day) - $1,200

SIMULCAST TRAILER

A solo for 401.

Did you miss SIMULCAST at Dance Massive this year?

Well here is a little teaser of what we made.

A solo for 401.

SIMULCAST is a study in simplicity. Young, old, trained and untrained dancers will work together to create this murmuration, taking place in Melbourne at Birrarung Marr. Created and produced by Chunky Move in association with Tasdance and Yellow Wheel, SIMULCAST is a solo for celebrated Australian dancer James O’Hara, supported by a local cast of 400.

A reflection on the fact that we are all part of something bigger and increasingly removed from a sense of human connectedness SIMULCAST brings us back. It is a contradiction. It is about the single and the multiple, minimalism and spectacle. Visually beautiful and aesthetically satisfying, solo movements trigger mass cannons, ricochets and swarms. Amidst moments of unity and discord we must listen to one another and respond. Watch as one moving body multiplies into hundreds.

Presented by Chunky Move and Dance Massive

Concept & Direction: Alice Lee Holland
Choreography: Alice Lee Holland & James O’Hara, supported by Adam Wheeler and Sofie Burgoyne (Tasdance) & Joshua Lowe and Kyall Shanks (Yellow Wheel)
Soloist: James O’Hara
Music: Kelly Ryall

Pepa Ubera In Residence Showing

FRIDAY 22nd 6pm at TASDANCE

_MG_2858.jpg

Pepa Ubera joins us from the UK and has been spending the last two weeks in residency at Tasdance. Pepa is visiting Tasmania through our partnership with Critical Path and we are delighted to be sharing what she has been working on with you all.

A Little Bit About Pepa's Practice
Pepa Ubera is a freelance dance artist whose choreographic practice expands into curatorial projects and the use of video in performance. Her work challenges social structures, questioning how the body behaves in the current context, mediating real time spaces as opportunities to deal with the unknown and the poetic as tools for transformation. She examines the tension that unites opposite ideas with the purpose of highlighting the spaces in between. The organic and the artificial, consumption and production are some of the concepts she explores in her artistic practice.
In her residency at Tasdance she will be researching how choreography can deal with the Anthropocene and how her practice can engage with the landscape and community of Tasmania.
