Tasdance has a long history of supporting dance practice and dance artists. The tranquil setting of Tasdance’s spacious studio, charming cottage and heritage garden provides artists with much needed time and space for reflection, invigoration, collaboration and response. Tasmanian regional practice is full of inspiration, an opportunity to unlock new ideas.

The Tasdance Residency for Independent Practice (TRIP) established in 2013 and is far more than a generous allocation of time in a studio. The program allows artists to take full advantage of everything Tasmania has to offer from the rugged coastline of the West Coast, to the world heritage forest of the central plateau, to MONA in Hobart.

TRIP celebrates everything Tasdance, a leading provider of choreographic opportunities; and, celebrates everything Tasmanian, the bespoke state of Australia.

Applications of the next TRIP residency coming soon in 2023…

What we can offer

TRIP residents will have access to the Tasdance Studio (14m x 12m sprung floor with tarkett) and free accommodation in the Tasdance Cottage. Travel and other expenses are the responsibility of the artist.

An audience for a showing and/or discussion at the end of the residency is usual practice and can be arranged in consultation with the Artistic Director.

Please note that the Studio is unavailable between 5:00pm and 9:00pm on Monday to Thursdays and weekends due to our public program and youth companies in residence.

Accommodation at Tasdance is in our one bedroom cottage. There is a kitchen and bathroom adjacent to the bedroom which has one double bed. There is also a sofa bed that can be made up, though please note both the double bed and sofa bed are in the same room.
