Since 1981, Tasdance has been the flagship dance company of Lutruwita/Tasmania. The company has created over 200 works and supported the work of more than 100 choreographers. Tasdance has a rich history of creating innovative and thought-provoking works that resonate both locally and nationally. The company is dedicated to supporting independent artists, nurturing emerging talent, and delivering meaningful engagement through performance, education, and community programs.

Based on the banks of the Kanamulka River in Launceston, Tasdance is known for its bold collaborations and dynamic storytelling through movement. The company works across regional and urban spaces, bringing high-quality contemporary dance to diverse audiences and communities. Tasdance also plays a vital role in dance education, offering workshops, residencies, and youth programs that inspire creativity and connection.

ADAM WHEELER — EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Adam is a Tasmanian-born Stompin and Victorian College of the Arts Alumni.

Adam has performed with Chunky Move, Jo Lloyd, Circa, Nica, 2NDTOE, and Opera Australia.

Adam has created work for Tasdance, Chunky Move, Lucy Guerin Inc. (Pieces for Small Spaces), Yellow Wheel, Stompin, QL2, Steps Youth Dance Company, and fLing Physical Theatre.

As an Artistic Director, founded Yellow Wheel (2012) and 2NDTOE (2007). Led the Australian Youth Dance Festival (2014 and 2017), The Space School of Performance Arts (2024-2016), and Short+Sweet Dance (2012 and 2013).

Adam is curious about interdisciplinary making, providing pathways for artists to develop practice and getting the community moving — all from his regional home of Lutruwita/Tasmania.
