<image:caption>Images of dancers from Tasdance, Dance Makers Collective, GUTS Dance, Tracks, and Dance North are pictured above the companies logos. Detour - Interconnected Dance Fellowship Dance Makers Collective | Dancenorth | GUTS | Tasdance | Tracks Detour provides one Australian dance artist a paid opportunity to connect with five leading Australian dance companies across a 12-month period, as part of an interconnected residency program, in a spirit of reciprocity. By working together, we will provide 15-weeks of paid work for an artist to spend time with us, engage with our communities, with no explicit 'outcome' in mind; to free an artist to develop in the context of our unique environs. For more detail about Detour, please follow this link. For more info on the companies, please follow this link.</image:caption>

This structure could be me. The undertaking of its stillness is epic. This encounter is both brief and permanent. Celebrated choreographer Jo Lloyd and Tasmanian blacksmith Pete Mattila have created Collision, a new work in collaboration with GUTS Dance and the Tasdance ensemble. The ephemeral nature of dance contrasted with the permanency of a metallic sculpture has an impact, both brief and permanent. Contrasting metals forge and repel with oscillating timelines. These elements collide to pose the question: What is possible here for those who are present?</image:caption>

<image:caption>Jenni is based in Lutruwita/Tasmania and works as a dancer, teacher and award-winning choreographer across so-called Australia. Driven by the personal, political and transformative forces of embodiment, Jenni’s dancing practice incorporates objects and apparatus, endeavouring to meld experimental with entertaining. Conceptually, her body of work seeks to subvert relational narratives and analyse socio-political themes that impact women. Jenni has performed extensively throughout Australia and internationally with artists and companies, including Tasdance, Dancenorth, Legs On The Wall, GUTS Dance, SA Opera/Leigh Warren and Ashleigh Musk. She has presented her choreographic work at festivals and venues, including Mona Foma, Ten Days On The Island, Ohm Festival Brisbane Powerhouse, Dancehouse and Carriage Works, both as an independent artist and through commissions from Sydney Dance Company, Australasian Dance Collective and the Keir Choreographic Award. Last year, Jenni was honoured to receive a Chloe Munro Fellowship and participate in Asia Link’s Singapore Arts Now exchange as a creative associate with Tasdance. <image:caption>Ashleigh Musk (she/her) is a dancer, choreographer, dramaturg and community arts facilitator based in Mparntwe (Alice Springs) in so-called Australia. She is deeply captivated by imagining futures, with a sensitivity to landscape and relationships, both human and beyond. Ashleigh's work often uses industrial materials which are activated in experimental ways, revealing complex relationships through handling of these junk-like objects with radical care and tenderness. Significant projects in 2024 include: developing ‘Chaos in Concert’ with Jenni Large and Anna Whitaker, touring ‘SUB’ and ‘Fertile Ground’ to national platforms across so-called Australia, being artist-in-residence at tMuseum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory, collaborating on ‘Desert Hothouse’ and youth project ‘Alice Can Dance’ with GUTS Dance, creating multidisciplinary installation CRISÁLIDA with Ivan Trigo Miras for the Desert Festival (Mparntwe) and participating as a selected artist in ‘Conversations on Performance’ at Festival TransAmériques and at the International Choreographers Retreat with Montreal Danse (Canada). https://ashleighmusk.art/About Image by Ivan Trigo Miras</image:caption>

<image:caption>Erin O’Rourke is a Naarm/Melbourne-based contemporary dance practitioner and researcher. She spent 2021 undertaking Honours Research at the Victorian College of the Arts (University of Melbourne) finishing with First Class Honours. <image:title>BIG HEAT - Conor Wild</image:title>
<image:caption>Born in London, Conor spent a lot of his life turning upside down. Eventually he decided it would be easier to move to Australia so he could be upside down all the time. Luckily he found the love of his life down here - solid reason to stay. Conor is a nerd and an over-thinker and loves rolling on the floor. He has an honours degree in Circus Arts and a keen interest in the cross section between dance and circus. He has lived and toured around the world performing with Cirque Éloize, Circa, Circus Oz and Les 7 Doigts de la Main. In creation Conor spends most of his time trying to make things that can be described as either ‘gooey’ or ‘schloopy’. Sometimes just plain ‘sick’ will cut the mustard. Conor also enjoys being stood on and rolling dice, although not at the same time.</image:caption>

Born and raised on Tiwas homelands in New Mexico, my practice is shaped by place and landscape. My diverse geographical experiences infiltrate my values as an artist. My work spans improvisation, choreography, writing, and mixed-media visual art. Now residing in Lutruwita/Tasmania, I am honored to create, teach, and collaborate with Assembly 197 and Tasdance. Through community classes, ARTERY dance education programs, and co-facilitating movement sessions at the Ashley Youth Detention Center, I am continually inspired by young people from all walks of life. From my beginnings in New Mexico to my international travels and now in Lutruwita, my passion for regional practice and community continues to grow. Holding a BA in Contemporary Dance and Intercultural Communications from the University of New Mexico, I also had the opportunity to study in Nicosia, Cyprus, from 2019-2020, where I worked with Lia Haraki and Panayiotis Tofi. In 2022, I received the UETF Resiliency Residency, during which I expanded an interdisciplinary solo piece, bodies, exploring presence, femininity, satisfaction, and whiteness in the moving body. <image:title>PLAGIARY - REUBEN MACDOUGALL Di MANNO</image:title>
<image:caption>Reuben is an emerging artist, working from unceded Wurundjeri land, with a particular interest in improvisation. Reuben has an expensive piece of paper called a ‘Bachelor of Creative Arts (Dance)’ and is a Yellow Wheel alumni. Reuben and the word ‘practice’ are old foes, and the two still engage in regular skirmishes, but Reuben has recently been thinking about attention… how live movement generation focuses attention. Elements of play and duration have been recurring recently, along with an emerging body of writing. Reuben is a huge process nerd whose work often ends up accidentally being about choreography or rehearsal.</image:caption>

      <image:title>PLAGIARY - SARAH GROTH</image:title>
<image:caption>I am deeply in love with the Earth, its art, and its movement. I have spent much of my life immersed in the forest, rocks, and dirt. Born and raised on Tiwas homelands in New Mexico, my practice is shaped by place and landscape. My diverse geographical experiences infiltrate my values as an artist. My work spans improvisation, choreography, writing, and mixed-media visual art. My time studying and working with the Keshet Center for the Arts, a company focused on movement, mentorship, community, and youth justice, has profoundly influenced my values. I also participated in the 2023 ImpulsTanz Festival in Vienna, 2024 MAKE in Lutruwita, and collaborated on Albuquerque Contemporary Dance Festival in New Mexico and HANNIBAL in Austria. My visual art, poetry, and short stories have been published in several international journals.</image:caption>
