Treasured Island, a record breaking production for TasDance, premiered as part of Tasmanian’s inaugural Ten Days on the Island Festival in 2001. With sell out seasons in Launceston and Hobart, and including works choreographed by three of Australia’s leading choreographers, Treasured Island swept Tasmanian audiences off their feet.

The three works, though each stylistically unique, combine to create the essence of our beautiful island state. The first of these works, Graeme Murphy’s Bard Bits is a vibrant dance interpretation of Shakespeare’s genius. The second piece, Silverlining, choreographed on the TasDance ensemble by Chrissie Parrot, is a mesmerising exploration of individuality verses the sterility of urbanisation. The final work, Natalie Weir’s Dirt also choreographed on the ensemble, in contrast, is a gritty and raw interpretation of the cycle of life. Performed by a vibrant and talented ensemble, Treasured Island is a kaleidoscope of life, contemporary dance, and the frailty of the human condition.
