Annual Educational Performance Project: Planet Earth
Tasdance's annual Educational Performance Project has become an integral part of the activities of many Tasmanian schools since it began 11 years ago. 2008 saw Planet Earth begin with special workshops conducted throughout the state with Emma Porteus and Jay Watson. Participants of the workshop series were then invited to audition for a place in the performance company.
Planet Earth then toured featuring 16 talented, young dancers from schools around the state. The show examined our planet and its place in the galaxy.

Dancers:
"A challenging theme indeed but clearly demonstrated as the first section opened with the dancers carefully passing a globe of the world across the stage. The dancers then executed powerful, grounded movement as an ensemble which gave the group solidarity and a denseness that was then complimented by moments of surreal lightness."
Fiona Reilly, The Examiner, April 12 2008
"...the commitment by the ensemble is clear, Exploring the 'physicality of physics', the work is engaging in concept and detail. From the opening sequence the movement is intriguing and the regular use of primeval shadow play serves to unite the work."
