Dance ETC

November 16 2007
The Silverdome, Launceston

More than five hundred students from across the East Tamar Cluster of schools performed this once only dance extravaganza at the Launceston Silverdome on the 16 November.

Dance ETC was performed by grade five and six students from across seven schools in northern Tasmania to celebrate International Day of Tolerance. The performance is the culmination of everything the students have achieved this term from their participation in an intensive series of dance workshops with Tasdance teachers Emma Porteus and Jay Watson.

Throughout term three Emma and Jay have travelled to each school to work with the students. Inspired by the United Nationals International Day of Tolerance, students created movements and provided significant input to the development of the choreography.

"I thought Tasdance was exciting and fun. I would like to do it again."
Eliza, Student

"Emily and Jay were fun but very serious when it came to dancing. I think it was good that we had fun and learnt what the dance was about - tolerance."
Jasmine, Student

"The Dance ETC project presented many positives in Arts Education and Social Skill Development. After eight weeks of preparation each student was able to observe and learn from each other. Within each school we were greeted by very keen, energetic and creative 10 - 12 year olds who embraced our energy, knowledge and fun right up until Curtain Call."
Jay Watson, Dance Tutor

Teachers and Choreographers: Emma Porteus and Jay Watson
