Active Audiences is a series of interactive workshops designed to show you what contemporary dance is all about. Presented by Anna Smith and Jane Deeth, we hope these workshops will enhance your experience of contemporary dance and of the work of our professional company performing in a town near you in the not too distant future. There are 2 ways to engage with Active Audiences
- 1. Active Workshop with Anna Smith: In this contemporary dance workshop you will experience the differences between contemporary and other dance practice and in particular some of the choreography related the performance of our Artery program
- 2. Dance Decoded with Jane Deeth: This interactive workshop aims to connect audiences with the history, meaning and personal relevance of the more challenging aspects of contemporary dance practice.
These workshops are designed for dance teachers, parents, dancers and anyone curious to know more about contemporary dance. The workshops will take place in the weeks leading up to the tour of Tasdance's Artery, a program of four diverse and innovative dance works created by some of Australia's emerging choreographic talent. Jane Deeth has worked in the Arts for over 20 years as an artist, teacher, curator and writer. Jane runs New Audiences for Art, a consultancy working in audience development with the arts sector.
Anna Smith is an innovative and celebrated choreographer and educator. With twenty years professional experience Anna continues to work as choreographer and lecturer in composition and technique at the Victorian College of the Arts.
